A Person Important to Me

When  I think  a important person of my life,  I rememberd  my father.  I was born in seoul, Korea.  I have four family.  I am the youngest daughter.  My parents were enamored of their youngest daughter.  My father especially affected all aspects of my life .  My father was not tall and hansom but he had strong spirit, body and patriotism. I would like to tell a anecdote about him.

My Parent ’s hometown was north Korea.  It’s a matter of common knowledge that the Korea is only divided country left in the world. The Korean War broke out in 1950.  When My father and  refuges came across the bridge, the bridge was collapsed  in front of my father because of explosion.   Many refugees were dead at the bridge. My father  fortunately was alive but  the river was very deep.  but My father was good swimmer. My father swam across the river and at last evacuated to the south Korea. He graduated from West Point  in South Korea. He became a general in the army.  After  the Korean war was ended in 1953, the Korea have been divided between south and north because of  ideology.  The north Korea became a communist country  and My parents could not meet their parents and relatives again because the divided country have been  sitting across from one another for decades  with mistrust and tension.  My Father could not return his hometown again and  was worried  about country  until he passed away.

My father was strict himself but he was generous with his family  and subordinates. When I was a teenager, he told me about history and classical literature.  I became  interested in books. He liked to go hiking and camping to Korean mountains such as Seoraksan which have superb natural landscape. He want to go hiking with me.  But  I felt it was so hard.  I promised to go later. After my father’s death, I regretted bitterly I hadn’t gone hiking with him. After that, When I standed at top of Seorak mountain, I realized that my father left a great lesson to me. it is ‘Carpe diem’.  I think ‘Carpe diem’ would be enjoy the day or seize the day , because you only live once.
